Big Screen Country beckons you to a weekend of independent movies right here in Missoula! The Montana FIlm Festival is nearly here!
It kicks off Thursday with two screenings, first a 50th anniversary screening of Montana-made THE MISSOURI BREAKS in 35mm. Between accepting the role and showing up to set, Marlon Brando invented a deadly āharpoon maceā for his character.
Also on Thursday, catch Marc Maron as an actor who receives a terminal cancer diagnosis and becomes obsessed with securing a spot in the Academy Awards āIn Memoriamā montage. IN MEMORIAM has a bunch of people you know in it, but weāre excited because Lily Gladstone shows up as Maronās therapist and weāre excited to have her back on the big screen!
On Friday weāve got Montana-made BABY LOVE about a MMA fighter whoās battling on the fight circuits while a series of concussions threatens to KO her career. A bunch of the crew responsible will be in-house to talk back after the show!
Also on Friday we have DRINKING AND DRIVING about aimless twenty-somethings wandering through their small town. Director Avalon Fast was one of FIlmmaker magazineās 25 New Faces 2026 and co-director/co-writer/star Jillian Frank and cinematographer Jacob Glickman are doing a prerecorded Q&A after the film!
Next,we have the raw coming-of-age story TEST about an amateur bodybuilder determined to become a champion while being forced to forced to confront a dysfunctional family, substance abuse, his sexuality, and the expectations heās spent years trying to live up to.
HONEYJOON follows a mother and daughter to the Azores islands for a grief anniversary.Ā A hot philosophical surfer (is there any other kind?) takes them on a tour as we ride the waves of life, loss, and flirting.
On Saturday joinĀ us for CHRONOVISOR, which may be the hardest to categorize of our films this year. A Chronovisor is an occult device said to reproduce visuals from any point in history on a TV screen and BeatriceĀ intends to find it. Jane Schoenbrun is a big fan if you need more convincing.
Our final film of the festival, ACT ONE is a backstage thriller about a high school acting student falling into obsession as she comes under the tutelage
