THE ODYSSEY (rated R) is returning for one last week. We've added lots of shows due to demand and to fit as many schedules as possible, including a couple $6 matinees. Nearly every article we've read about this movie has predicted THE ODYSSEY as a contender for Best Picture, and Matt Damon is delivering a Best Actor-worthy performance. Directed by Christopher Nolan, y'all. You know it's going to be good!

People are leaving the theater speechless. My brother-in-law saw it on Friday night at The Bijou and said that while he took a little cat nap during Project Hail Mary, "there's NO WAY I could fall asleep during The Odyssey!" There's, like, a ton of action folks. And Joey, our darling employee, texted me after her shift on Thursday night claiming this is the best movie she's seen so far at The Bijou! She's no slouch on the movie game.

Air quality alerts got you down? Us too. If you're seeking an indoor activity, we're open for you today at 3pm for a showing of THE ODYSSEY. Movie begins at 3:30pm. Popcorn will be fresh, sodas cold and crispy, and the furnace filter brand-spankin'-new.

We're standing in solidarity with our family's beloved movie theater up in Ely, Minnesota - the historic State Theater. A few weeks before we purchased The Bijou we were camping and canoeing in the Boundary Waters, and on our last day we visted The State Theater in Ely for some relaxation in the AC. The employees gave us a tour and shared in our excitement for our upcoming purchase of The Bijou. Our next trip to the Boundary Waters will likely feel very different due to the wildfires that have been burning for almost a week, but we'll definitely visit The State Theater, Wintergreen Northern Wear, Boundary Waters Kitchen, Zupps, Steiger Mukluks, and our other favorite local businesses.

Our private rental promotion has arrived! Book a private theater rental for the month of September for just $140. We have several Saturday and Sunday morning and early afternoon spots available, as well as a few Monday-Wednesday evenings.

Join us today and tomorrow for two "last chance" matinees of Minions & Monsters. We've decided to schedule a couple of encore matinees due to request. This will be our last animated movie at The Bijou for a few weeks.

We're super jazzed for Thursday because you may have read The Odyssey in school, but you haven't seen the story like this! After the Trojan War, Odysseus faces a dangerous voyage back to Ithaca, meeting creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, Sirens, and Calypso along the way. Opening at 2pm on Thursday, we'll be showing THE ODYSSEY (rated R) for two weeks.

Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. Advance tickets welcome, as well as at the door.

Farmer Jim came a-callin' this morning with twenty 50-pound bags of 🍿popcorn🍿 grown on his farm just outside of Cedar Falls. His delivery came just in time for Heritage Days and the remainder of a busy summer season, but he had to hustle to get it processed from his grain bin and bagged up. Farmer Jim came through for us!

Due to the theater being all cute and itty-bitty, we store a few bags on-site and the rest in our basement, bringing it to the theater as needed. Do you think twenty bags will last through the holiday season? It may be a close call!

🎬Screening of MINIONS & MONSTERS at 6:30pm. This is a great evening option for families. Doors open at 6pm.
📽Screening of MINIONS & MONSTERS at 4pm on Sunday. We recommend purchasing tickets in advance or arriving when doors open at 3:30pm.

📽 MINIONS & MONSTERS plays every day through Sunday, including lots of $6 matinees and an evening showing on Saturday night for families looking for entertainment options during Heritage Days.
🚙 The free documentary screening of AFTER IKE is on Saturday at 3:30pm (doors open at 3pm - arrive early!) right as the Car Show ends Uptown. We highly recommend reserving tickets in advance. We can only show this documentary one time, unfortunately.
🍿Visit our cute red-and-white-striped popcorn stand at the MVB&T drive-thru on Saturday for a cute red-and-white-striped box of fresh movie theater popcorn or kettle corn. We'll also bring some bulk candies to sprinkle on top!

Join us on WEDNESDAY at 3:30pm for a SENSORY-FRIENDLY screening of TOY STORY 5! Doors will open at 3pm.

What's a sensory-friendly screening?

It's basically a regular showing of a movie, with a few changes to ensure all of our guests are comfortable with the experience. We basically try to make sure it's not too overstimulating. First, we will keep the lights at a mid-level and will turn the volume down just a bit. Less boomy, ya know? Guests who get restless are welcome to stand in the aisles or in the back of the theater. Cheering or big LOLs during the movie are welcome. And if anyone wants to bring headphones, a blanket, or a stuffy to help them stay calm, that's cool too.

Everyone is welcome at a sensory-friendly screening, whether they "need" a less stimulating environment or not. The Bijou is here for every body!
