Summer passed away today at 14 years old. So many memories with this sweet doe. Fairland Farm SC Summertime was the very first lamancha doe born on our farm back in 2012. She quickly became the herd queen and was respected by the rest of the herd. She was Reagan’s showmanship goat and they excelled at the local, state , and national level. That doe would stand like a rock for hours in the ring. The only thing that distracted her was if she saw me on the outside of the ring. She would have to talk to me. For that reason I always had to remain out of sight during showmanship. She came so close to her permanent champion and was one win short when she retired. She was used by Gabby during her speech class her senior year so she got to go to school for a day too.
I knew she was declining over the past week but she still was bright eyed and was ready for her grain during chores. Just this morning she was up and ready for her handfuls of grain and cookies. I had prayed last night for God to take her fast so she didn’t suffer. He granted my prayer and took her on a beautiful sunny day. She will be buried in the pasture where she loved to be. RIP my dear sweet summer.
