What is Project: FOCUS?

Project: FOCUS is a film bootcamp for New York City high school students who are interested in filmmaking. It offered six young artists an opportunity to learn about the craft of storytelling at one of the top institutions in the world. They were instructed and mentored by students in Columbia’s MFA film program and required to make films which will premiere at this event.

Hey Comrades!
Project: FOCUS has been growing strong and steady the last few weeks and we're excited to share some legit developments with you all...

Just to reiterate for those of you who might've been too swamped to look out for this cool new program in the past, here's the info:

Project: FOCUS provides a select group of high school students the opportunity to learn filmmaking through hands-on experience and personalized instruction from Columbia MFA film students. High school students will develop skills that focus on the technical and storytelling fundamentals of filmmaking as a way of stimulating a deeper interest in film as a mode of expression. By the end of the seven week program (held Sunday afternoons from 1pm-5pm, between February 26th - April 22nd) the students will be versed in the basics of screenwriting, story structure, directing, producing, lighting, on-set safety and best of all, the students' participation in the program will yield a short film of their own!

Films completed in the program will premiere at a graduation event held on the Columbia campus. It will be open to the public giving parents, classmates, and the community an opportunity to enjoy the work.

We are NOW OPEN to receiving applications for mentors and instructors in the program!

Applications for all roles are due in by FEB 3rd.

Additionally, please read the flier and application attachments for more info. All jobs will be fully compartmentalized to ensure a smooth workload. If you have any further questions, please direct your inquiries to [email protected].

We hope to get some enthusiastic and kickass mentors to commit to working with the kids!!

Best,
Solange, Ajani & Victor
