Your festival weekend starts here. 🎬

Before you head out, take a few minutes to plan your screenings, reserve your spots, and double check where you need to be.

A few reminders:
- Arrive at least 20 minutes early
- Passholders still need to reserve individual screenings and panels
- Seating is subject to capacity
- Check your venue before each event
Then leave a little room in your schedule for the part you cannot plan: the conversations in between.

Why does art matter?

We will be exploring that question on Sunday, October 25 at 11am.

Art criticism done well gives the audience a lens through which to explore the medium being examined – film, music, visual art. Critics encourage skepticism, critical thought, and provoke conversation. Art can be exciting, vague, or even confusing at times. The role of the critic is to provide a way to view or understand what lay people are seeing and experiencing. Critics are neither right nor wrong. Good critics do not provide us with the answers, they provide opinions that work as templates to form our own critical thoughts.

Join us for a conversation about the importance of criticism to art with the director of “The Last Critic,” Matty Wishnow, Tim Palmer, Professor of Film & Media Arts, University of Utah and Kasey Lindley, artist, arts writer, and curator. Aldy Milliken, Executive Director, Kimball Art Center, will moderate.

Light snacks and beverages included in the ticket price, plus a free 2hr electric bike rental from Summit County Bike Share. Code will be provided with ticket.

Please join the film team and local experts for a wide-ranging community discussion about the film and its themes. The panel will begin with an open Q&A to explore the issues the film helps viewers to consider. Participants will then be invited to join smaller facilitated groups to explore their particular interests, including:

- Grief, ritual, and changing expectations surrounding deathcare
- A terramation teach in: How it works, what it costs, and what else you should know
-Next steps with legislation to legalize the process in Utah

The event will include director JJ Ge**er, film participant Micah Truman, Clementine Briand, producer, Shayneh Starks, Starks Funeral Parlor and Zaneta Gileno, Thanatologist. Katie Noble will moderate. Free refreshments for this panel provided by Red Bicycle Breadworks.

What happens when a self-serving motive turns into a chance at redemption?

Frank & Louis follows Frank, a man serving a life sentence, who takes a prison job caring for aging inmates with Alzheimer’s and dementia. What begins as a practical decision slowly becomes a bond with Louis, changing the way Frank sees responsibility, compassion, and the possibility of personal transformation.

Directed by Petra Volpe, Frank & Louis is a moving story about dignity, friendship, and finding humanity in an unforgiving place.

See Frank & Louis at the inaugural Park City Film Festival.
