Cannibal: The Musical
Midtown • Kingston
Thursday, October 29th

South Park’s Trey Parker’s first directorial work – when he was still a college student – is loosely based on the story of the only convicted cannibal in the frontier age, leading a group of miners from Utah to Colorado where they must navigate all the pitfalls in between. Fans of The Book of Mormon musical will find many early references that gave way to the Broadway show. Over-the-top, crass, and grisly – this curio found a perfect home with Troma and is beloved by many.

This 4K restoration presents the film in the complete photographic form, as it was meant to be. It makes for an atmospheric black-and-white masterpiece which spans the birth and death of God, nature, and beyond. Shot on 16mm and rephotographed frame by frame over four years, Begotten transforms bodies, landscape, darkness, light and grain into a physical world with its own laws.

CLOSE-UP with the director!

The legendary maestro Leonard Bernstein—celebrity conductor, composer, and political activist—is thrillingly captured in this archival documentary portrait. With Bernstein’s 1989 Christmas Day concert in Berlin as a frame, Douglas Tirola crafts Bernstein’s remarkable career entirely from television interviews, news footage, home movies, audio clips, and personal letters.

La Bola Negra opens at Upstate Films on November 6th. Tickets available soon!

“Nearly every shot in the film is a carefully composed wonder, either an eye-popping still-life tableau or a breathtaking bit of camera movement, all done up in lush, expensive-looking period detail. It’s a dazzlingly assured film, delivering the heady satisfaction of seeing something ambitious actually land its nervy attempt.” —Hollywood Reporter

Movie accompanied by live shadowcast: Audacity’s Cabaret has been making The Rocky Horror Picture experience a more immersive experience from their lair in Troy. This fast-paced potpourri of camp, sci-fi and rock ‘n’ roll tracks the exploits of naïve couple Brad and Janet after they stumble upon the lair of transvestite Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Initially the film flopped but it quickly became a cult classic sensation, especially when audiences began interacting with the film at the Waverly in NYC using props, callbacks, and mimicking the characters. From this grew a worldwide shadowcast phenomena, where dedicated fans add gimmicks, parody themes, and more.
