On August 7th 1974, French tightrope walker Philippe Petit stepped out on a high wire, illegally rigged between New York’s World Trade Center twin towers, then the world’s tallest buildings. After nearly an hour of performing on the wire, 1,350 feet above the sidewalks of Manhattan, he was arrested. This fun and spellbinding documentary chronicles Philippe Petit’s “highest” achievement.

Meet the esteemed playwrights behind The Democracy Plays! 🎭

🎬The Rosendale Theatre presents The Democracy Plays: A Short Play Festival for Our Times, directed by Ann Citron—an evening of original 10–12 minute plays by Hudson Valley playwrights.

From the Supreme Court to the town board, these powerful, funny, and thought-provoking works explore how democracy shapes our everyday lives—and how the choices we make today will shape generations to come.

⭐️Darrah Cloud is an award-winning playwright, lyricist, and television writer whose recent work includes House of McQueen, Sabina, and Turning, with current projects including a musical adaptation of Wally Lamb’s She’s Come Undone and Be Safe, I Love You.

⭐️David Simpatico is an acclaimed playwright and librettist known for Disney’s High School Musical, The Life and Death(s) of Alan Turing, and Twelve Angry Men, and currently adapting Wally Lamb’s She’s Come Undone with Darrah Cloud and Michael Holland.

⭐️Ivy Meehan is an actress and writer who has spent nine years developing Ruth, a hip-hop musical about Ruth Bader Ginsburg and pioneering Supreme Court advocate Belva Ann Lockwood, while performing across the Hudson Valley and earning Best Actress honors at the Fort Myers Film Festival for her feature film A Room Full of Nothing.

⭐️Brian C. Petti is an award-winning playwright whose work has been produced in New York, Los Angeles, and internationally, with multiple published plays and an upcoming premiere of his newest work, Breathe, in Chester, NY.

⭐️Danielle Frimer is a Hudson Valley playwright and member of HOWL Playwrights whose big-hearted, socially engaged work has been developed and performed nationwide, including her award-winning a marriage is a story we tell and keep telling, with her new play P. Pan et al. premiering in NYC in 2027.
