Let's get weird! This September we are bringing new releases, rediscoveries, restorations, wild double features, trips through time, a celebration of VHS, a local feature featuring a Q&A with the writer/producer, and a few favorites thrown in as well!
We are proud to host the only Sacramento screenings of Alex Ross Perry's video essay / love letter to the video store VIDEOHEAVEN, a brand new animation mixtape from Don Hertzfeldt only available in theaters, a couple of shows of the new absurd Spanish fantasy-comedy in the vein of Almodovar THE FANTASTIC GOLEM AFFAIRS, the recently rediscovered feminist masterwork from Lebanese filmmaker Heiny Srour, LEILA AND THE WOLVES, plus a fantastic restoration of Paul Morrissey's (BLOOD FOR DRACULA) gritty NYC exploitation film MIXED BLOOD, and a new Severin/Národní filmový archiv/Czech Audiovisual Fund restoration of Juraj Herz' (THE CREMATOR) heady car-sploitation oddity FERAT VAMPIR!
AND we celebrate all things VHS with another edition of Trash Tapes, a VHS swap at Bloodstone Books on 9/13, a SOV double feature featuring two bonkers titles from the DIY / video store era HALLUCINATIONS & THE MCPHERSON TAPE, the first SOV film to be blown up for a theatrical release BOARDINGHOUSE, and a collab with for a Van Dammage Double Feature...SUDDEN DEATH & STREET FIGHER screening on VHS!
This month is for all of you adventurous film goers out there who are excited to see stuff at The Dreamland that you won't see anywhere else!
