I spent twenty minutes explaining the fractal plying process to my husband last night (he’s a mathematician) then told him that it was called fractal plying and he said “why didn’t you lead with that? I asked if it would have held and he had to admit that it wouldn’t because the part we were stuck on was how the second ply gets taken up at double speed… I had wanted to know if plying this way changed something about the math pattern I used to in the dyeing - even though the answer is in the picture. I still wanted to hear it from him. Anyway here’s is a beautiful illustration of STEAM in one braid. Spun on my new dove, would with my rolypoly and my whirligig from David Giles
