*** Miami Chapter Member Spotlight ***
Meet Miami-native Matthew Perez!
Matthew played baseball for Miami-Dade College and graduated with his AA before graduating from FIU in 2018 with his bachelors in sports management. Like a true Miamian, he is a skilled dancer and is a proud fan of all Miami sports teams. In fact, he works for our very own Miami Marlins as a supervisor for ticket operations! Besides being an avid sports fan, he enjoys fishing which makes him feel at peace and relaxed.
Matthew, who has been stuttering since the age of 4, joined the Miami chapter about a year ago because he was curious about it and also wanted to meet other people who stutter. What he likes most about chapter meetings is that they are “judgment-free”. Stuttering has not been an issue for him in his career as he doesn’t let it get in the way of achieving any of his goals.
“One thing I want to say that has helped me out in life is having a carefree and confident mentality when it comes to what other people think about me. This goes for people who don’t even stutter. It is important to keep in mind that, odds are, you are never going to see that one stranger you stuttered in front of again. So, it doesn’t matter what they think.”
Staying true to his positive mentality and being goal-driven, Matthew plans to pursue his masters degree in the very near future.
