🎞️ NOTHING IS REAL, BUT EVERYTHING MATTERS 🎞️

This June, Northwest Film Forum is proud to present four films that explore the almost-always blurry boundary between fantasy, desire, and reality when it comes to our deepest (and sometimes darkest) fantasies. Together, these four films present different approaches to representing q***r s*xuality on film in all its libidinal possibilities. From modern found-footage compilations of vintage gay "all male" films, to depersonalized docs on kinky s*x, this program breaks down the walls between what we want and what we can have in hopes of creating a world of pure, unfiltered pleasure.

THIS WEEKEND ONLY -- Kamal Aljafari's WITH HASAN IN GAZA comes to Northwest Film Forum for a limited time only. Using home videos as a source of personal archaeology and a guide to reuniting with a former prison-mate, this film is a potent reminder of the power of home video, especially when your home is constantly under threat.

🔵 YOU DON'T KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT ME 🔵

BLUE FILM, the daring and provocative debut feature from Elliot Tuttle, comes to Northwest Film Forum next week for TWO NIGHTS ONLY! Allegedly too controversial for film festivals, BLUE FILM is a delicate tightrope walk of a film that confronts viewers with what it means to be truly empathetic and open about the darkest parts of ourselves.

You all already sold out Thursday night, but Wednesday has plenty of tickets left. More info at https://bit.ly/bluefnw

✈️ IS IT LIKE A HOBBY PROJECT? ✈️

Next Wednesday FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY, catch the newest feature from Travis Wood and Alex Mallis -- THE TRAVEL COMPANION. This film is truly a cringe comedy for filmmakers both aspiring and well-seasoned, asking questions about the lengths we go to complete our passion projects and the risks we take with them, our relationships, and our own sanity.

🐬 I BECAME NON-HUMAN 🐬

John Lilly is perhaps one of the strangest people to ever have any major impact on American popular culture, and this weekend Northwest Film Forum presents a double feature of two films that have his fingerprints all over them. John Lilly and the Earth Coincidence Control Office is the new documentary from Michael Almereyda & Courtney Stephens exploring Lilly’s work and lasting impact, and Altered States takes Lilly’s work and concepts and dramatizes them in a way that only someone like Ken Russell with a Hollywood budget could pull off.

Expand your consciousness for ONE WEEKEND ONLY! And as a bonus, we will have the video game Ecco The Dolphin, one of the most surreal gaming experiences created, available to play in the lobby!

🌸 A TRUE ARTIST IS SOMEONE WHO IS CLOSE TO THE PEOPLE 🌸

Starting tonight for TWO NIGHTS ONLY catch Abbas Kiarostami's CLOSE-UP at Northwest Film Forum. One of the best interrogations of reality-making in filmmaking (documentary or otherwise), CLOSE-UP remains an essential and thrilling work on what makes cinema and its forms so enticing.

Tickets are on sale now! More info at https://bit.ly/closeupnw

Wed May 13: 7.00pm PDT
Thu May 14: 7.00pm PDT

SYNOPSIS:
Internationally revered Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami has created some of the most inventive and transcendent cinema of the past thirty years, and Close-up is his most radical, brilliant work. This fiction-documentary hybrid uses a sensational real-life event—the arrest of a young man on charges that he fraudulently impersonated the well-known filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf—as the basis for a stunning, multilayered investigation into movies, identity, artistic creation, and existence, in which the real people from the case play themselves. With its universal themes and fascinating narrative knots, Close-up has resonated with viewers around the world.

✍️ IT'S RATHER ODD YOU'RE ALONE ✍️

Sho Miyake's TWO SEASONS, TWO STRANGERS, the first of the acclaimed director's films to be distributed in the United States, comes to Northwest Film Forum this week! A subdued and profound meditation on the process of making art, TWO SEASONS, TWO STRANGERS is a reminder of the importance of human connection and stories in a time when it can be easy to be lost in sadness. For fans of Hong Sang-soo and Ryusuke Hamaguchi!

Thu May 14: 7.30pm PDT
Sat May 16: 5.00pm PDT, 7.00pm PDT
Sun May 17: 5.00pm PDT, 7.00pm PDT

SYNOPSIS:
Based on two mangas by Yoshiharu Tsuge, who rose to underground celebrity thanks to his surrealist tales published in the pages of the bastion of Japanese avant-garde cartooning, Garo, Miyake’s bifurcated live-action feature observes (and draws parallels and contrasts from) a summertime meet-cute between Nagisa and Natsuo (Yuumi Kawai and Mansaku Takada) and a snowbound winter encounter between screenwriter Li and innkeeper Benzo (Shim Eun-kyung and Shinichi Tsutsumi). Two Seasons, Two Strangers is at one and the same time as simple as its straightforward title suggests and immensely, exhilaratingly complex.
