I'm trying to figure out if pictures I post on my facebook home page (under my banner) reach the same people at the same rate as those I post on the page where everybody's postings arrive. I used the personalized bannered page for this here... but a few hours earlier I posted a group of five pix including this one on the other page... So if there's a very noticeable difference in ratings and comments, I guess that'll settle which page is better.

Tuesday's Figday... and here we are!

Need help, very non-urgent— Can anyone out there tell me the difference (if any) between posting on the page where incoming posts from all over arrive (which I am using now), and posting on my facebook "home page" (under the personalized banner)? I always assumed they were the same, but maybe they're not...

NO MORE FIGS!!? (Blurred in this copy by me, so as to avoid offending the robo-cops) Your comments and recommendations are welcome. A previous comment (which I think arrived while the banned picture was still on display), unblurred) came from a retired schoolteacher who also served as mayor of his village: "Keep 'em coming!" How decent and respectable can you get?

There are another half-dozen figs to follow from yesterday (Tues 24 Sept) if I can get facebook uploads to work. This'll have to do in the meantime.

September Figs. Our model this time is the star of Akelay Sath Mein, which of course all you cool and with-it folk will recognize as Urdu for 'Alone Together' ... I believe it;s Episode 3 or 4 before Miss X makes her unforgettable appearance, but its impact and meaning will be much enhanced if you start with Episode One and watch all eight parts in sequence. If I can find it again I'll post a link in a message below. You won't regret it.

Here's another blast from the past... Circa 1987-92, I did a bunch of cover illustrations for the legendary Bob Aulicino, Ramdom House design chief, of which by far the trickiest was The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers, by Paul Kennedy, Yale prof. We bounced around literally dozens of ideas, each one doodled or sketched or half-rendered, and finally we agreed on one, it went on the book, and the book was a critically acclaimed and a big seller. I figured I'd made the big time.
The following summer, I finally met one of my biggest fans for the time—Joe Schenkman's mom (a fine musician who introduced Joe to Beethoven's Late Quartets with her violin vibrating on his unborn head). She happened to mention she'd read the Kennedy book. She hadn't even noticed there was a cover illustration! Oy vey!
The next thing I knew, a different team designed the paperback edition and commissioned a slightly different illustration, and that was that. Chalk it up to experience.
But then, twenty-some years later, someone let me know they'd seen A PBS interview with Prof. Kennedy, who said the cover illustration nicely summed up his thesis, stressed he was referring to the original hardcover edition art (not the paperback), and the camera lingered lovingly for what seemed forever on a close-uo of that inconspicuous little image. I contacted Bob at his Prescott Arizona retreat where he now designs books by local authors and lives on roadkill (I'm embellishing a little) and thanks his lucky bright desert stars every night that he's free at last and forever, far from the NYC rat race to tell him of our belated success. "We're vindicated!" said he. "One of our triumphs after all!" So with this happy ending, it went from a forgettable washout to something to feel smug about.

NewsHour correspondent Paul Solman talks to Yale historian Paul Kennedy about the rise and fall of great economic powers like the United States.

I came across this the other day while digging around in old files.. It was done about 30 years ago for an independent movie house on Long Island, then celebrating its 20th anniversary. It's the front and back cover of a souvenir booklet, all drawn on one huge bristol board. (The lettering was done a NeXT® computer— faster and easier and better than any graphics software now available.)

It was better than I remembered, so I called the theater tp see if they'd be interested in reproducing it as a promo poster, to give patrons or to sell in the lobby to movie nuts. No one responded to the message I left, so I guess it's going back into cold storage unless someone has a better idea.

Seven years and a couple of weeks ago my entanglement with (by) the ironbark grove on the hillside reached a climax with this effort... It seems like time has stood still since then
