Feminist carnival body horror RAW plays at Arkadin this Thursday, September 10 at 7 p.m.

The bolt-from-the-blue debut from French provocateur Julia Ducournau (Titane), Raw is a wild, visceral coming-of-age art-horror cannibal jam unlike anything that came before it. Garance Marillier stars as Justine, a sheltered, vegetarian veterinary student whose first taste of raw meat during a brutal hazing ritural awakens a ravenous hunger she can’t explain. Justine experiences a body‑horror metamorphosis that’s equal parts tender, terrifying, and intoxicating in this weird and wild journey that depicts self‑discovery as a carnivorous fever dream. Filled with indelible images and inedible nightmares, Raw may just be the greatest allegorical-feminist-cannibal-erotic-body-horror-vet-school-hazing film you’ll ever see.

New cannibal horror THE THRESHING plays at Arkadin on Saturday, September 19 at 7 p.m.

In this slow-burn psychological horror from filmmaker Sean Mannion, a young couple’s dream of regenerative farming and idyllic mountainside living curdles into increasingly sinister rituals, spiraling from animal slaughter to self-mutilation and cannibalism. Filmed on a working regenerative farm, The Threshing reaps a harvest of horrors from its intimate—often insular and cult-like—milieu and the havoc it plays on its characters’ fragile psyches. Exploring issues of ecology, relationships, and the systems of belief that allow us to function in this off-kilter world, The Threshing is as fresh as the daily harvest.

Taking a simple premise and turning it into an increasingly bloody and hallucinogenic nightmare, Joseph F. Robertson’s Auntie Lee’s Meat Pies heaps on gruesome kills with a healthy side of pitch-black humor.
