Presented on the 36th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, join us for a 100% FREE screening of CRIP CAMP, presented by the Starkloff Network. Seating is first come, first served. No tickets required.

Down the road from Woodstock, a revolution blossomed in a ramshackle summer camp for teenagers with disabilities, transforming their lives and igniting the disability-rights movement. At Camp Jened, teens with disabilities tasted freedom, friendship, and self‑expression; decades later those bonds fueled protests, sit‑ins, and policy fights that reshaped American civil rights. Through archival footage and candid interviews, Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution provides a galvanizing chronicle of community united around the fight for rights and dignity.

CAREFUL plays at Arkadin this Sunday, July 26 at 6 p.m.

Arkadin favorite Guy Maddin’s early masterpiece takes place in a 19th-century Alpine village where the wary residents—adult, child and animal—must speak softly and tread lightly lest they cause an avalanche. But sexual frenzies teem in this world of repression, setting off incestuous love triangles and quadrangles with deadly consequences. Bathed in lurid, luminescent tints, CAREFUL is Maddin’s twisted ode to a largely forgotten film subgenre, the German “Bergfilme” of the 1920s and ’30s, which pitted man (and woman) against mountain in epic survivalist adventures. Merging these bygone conventions with Maddin’s own delirious obsessions results in a truly singular work that resembles a vintage melodrama from another planet.

THE ROSE OF NEVADA plays at Arkadin on Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

“A stupefying, time-slipping ghost story” (The Film Stage) from Mark Jenkin, the visionary director of Enys Men, Rose of Nevada is a seasick sci-fi-inflected journey into the unknown. Or, as critic Brian Tallerico put it, “a mind-f**k” that “reminds you of the work of Mike Leigh and David Lynch at the same time.”

Three decades ago, the Rose of Nevada vanished at sea, along with its crew. Now, it has returned. In a remote fishing village, its reappearance is embraced as an auspicious sign, with the local citizens convinced the luck of their economically devastated community may turn, if only the ship sails again. Joining the crew is Nick (George MacKay, 1917), desperate to provide for his young family, and Liam (Callum Turner, Fantastic Beasts), a mysterious drifter eager to escape his past. After a successful voyage, they return to harbor, only to find that nothing is as they remember it.

Shot on 16mm film with a vintage Bolex H16, a camera that only allows a maximum runtime of 28 seconds per take, and edited with a haunting, rhythmic pulse, Rose of Nevada is, like its characters, adrift in time—ferociously contemporary yet profoundly haunted by the past. It’s also very weird, very cool, and like nothing else in contemporary cinema.

This Sunday on the backlot join us for MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, playing at 8:30 p.m. on July 26.

A relentless, high-octane chase across a sun-scorched wasteland, Mad Max: Fury Road is undeniably one of the greatest action movies ever made. Director George Miller returned to his Mad Max roots and unleashed a visceral symphony of roaring engines, explosive stunts, and mind-blowingly kinetic visuals. Tom Hardy stars as the stoic Max while Charlize Theron is ferocious as Imperator Furiosa. The two form an unlikely alliance to rescue enslaved women from a tyrant’s citadel, sparking a thunderous rebellion in the process. Two weeks from today presents PSYCHOMANIA. Playing at Arkadin on August 5 at 7 p.m.

The dead return to life as sadistic bikers in the unhinged, outlaw British flick Psychomania (1973). A violent biker gang known as The Living Dead dabbles in black magic at The Seven Witches, a druid circle of seven standing stones in the countryside. The gang’s leader Tom (Nicky Henson), with the help of his mother (Beryl Reid) and her nefarious butler Shadwell (George Sanders in his final role) who both worship a sinister Frog God, discovers that by committing su***de you can return as an undead, unkillable meance. Tom uses this knowledge to convince his gang, including his reluctant girlfriend, to follow him into death so they can all return as masked bikers with the sole purpose of terrorizing the locals.

Directed by Hammer veteran Don Sharp, Psychomania (released in the U.S. as The Death Wheelers) was initially dismissed as a low-budget psychedelic zombie biker frightener with low-ambitions of cultivating an audience. Soon however the film developed a devoted cult following for its legitimately crazy stunt work, eerie atmosphere, leather costumes and dark comedy. It also features a notable soundtrack by British composer John Cameron.
