Adapted from a novel by Aldous Huxley, THE DEVILS concerns the moral rot in 17th Century France, where a priest’s protection of the city of Loudun from the corrupt Cardinal Richelieu is undermined by a sexually repressed nun’s accusation of witchcraft. Finally restored to Russell’s full, unexpurgated vision, THE DEVILS is an incendiary work that feels more relevant than ever 55 years after its release.
