Stanwood
Located within one hour of Seattle, Bellingham, and the Canadian border, Stanwood provides a friendly small-town retreat from big city life, with historic buildings, shopping, antiques, restaurants, and full-service resources in a quaint, agricultural setting. Stanwood has many popular events, including February's Great Northwest Glass Quest. Search for and find clue balls hidden at a variety of host businesses and in community sites around the Stanwood-Camano area to win a glass ball handmade by Mark Ellinger, a world-renowned, hand-blown glass artist. During spring and summer, you can enjoy many family-friendly events and festivals, including Stanwood Summer Concerts, Moonlight Movie Nights, Twin City Idlers Car Show, Touch-A-Truck, the Stanwood Camano Arts Festival, Stanwood Camano Community Fair, and the Rotary Parade. The Stanwood Farmers Market runs from June-Oct on Friday afternoons. Bundle up for Stanwood's biggest and brightest event, The Lights of Christmas, at Warm Beach Camp. The indoor-outdoor holiday festival features nearly one million lights, a stunning, larger-than-life nativity, live music, crafts, food, children's pony rides, a petting farm, draft horse wagon rides, train rides, a dinner theater, and overnight options. Stanwood is home to many local artists working in painting, pottery, glass, photography, and wood. The annual Mother's Day Studio Tour showcases our local artists and gives everyone the chance to enjoy their talents. Nearby, the world-famous Pilchuck Glass School, started by Dale Chihuly, draws students worldwide each summer. Stanwood is an active community – people committed to serving others, living a quality life, and managing growth in a manner that benefits everyone. It's budget season in Stanwood! The City of Stanwood's proposed 2027–2028 Biennial Budget is now available online. The budget outlines how the City plans to fund essential services, infrastructure improvements and community priorities over the next two years.

As City Council prepares to review the proposed budget in November, we encourage community members to get involved, ask questions and share feedback.

Two important public hearings are coming up:

SR 532 & 64th Avenue Roundabout Update - A new roundabout is planned at the intersection of SR 532 and 64th Avenue NW. The roundabout is associated with the Cedarside development project and will be funded by the developer to help mitigate traffic impacts.

The traffic control plan is currently under review by WSDOT, with construction potentially beginning later this year or in 2027, permitting necessary approvals. We will share a more definitive timeline as soon as it becomes available.

Looking at the bigger picture: The roundabout is one of several improvements planned along SR 532, including pedestrian safety upgrades at 72nd Avenue NW and longer-term projects to improve traffic flow, safety and accessibility throughout the corridor.

It's happening Stanwood! Construction is officially underway on Depot Park. 🚧

What was once a vacant, contaminated property next to the Amtrak Station is officially being transformed into a new downtown destination, community gathering space and welcoming gateway to Stanwood.

Once complete, Depot Park will feature a small, Scandinavian inspired stage, seating, public art, wayfinding signage and a dedicated space for the holiday tree.

This project has been years in the making, from purchasing the former service station property and completing environmental cleanup, to designing, and now constructing, a vibrant public space that generations can enjoy for years to come.

Construction is anticipated to be complete by early January. Businesses and roads remain open! Stay tuned for project updates and read the full story linked in the comments.
