Story Theater, 512 Broad Street, Story City, IA (2026)

Todd Thorson has operated the historic Story Theater Grand Opera House since December of 1983, taking over the theater operations from Dick and Virgil Peterson. The Petersons came to Story City, along with their parents in 1946, and ran the theater for 37 years. Thorson is now in his 41st year operating the theater business, to go along with the 111 year anniversary of the historic opera house. The Story Theater has the distinction of being one of the oldest continually running theaters in Iowa as well as the country, having never closed its doors in its 111 years of existence. The Story Theater is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
