What makes The Odyssey movie so spectacular?

DIRECTOR- The Odyssey is directed by one of the most influential filmmakers of our time. Christopher Nolan is considered exceptional because very few directors succeed simultaneously as artists, innovators, and blockbuster filmmakers. When possible, Nolan prefers real locations, practical effects, real stunts, and physical sets. He creates movies that work on two levels: they're huge crowd-pleasing spectacles, but they're also intellectually and emotionally challenging. That's a rare combination, and it's why each new Nolan film feels like a major cultural event. Directorial credits inlcude...Memento (2000), The Dark Knight (2008), Inception (2010), Interstellar (2014), Dunkirk (2017), Oppenheimer (2023)

EPIC- It brings Homer's 3,000 year old legendary adventure to life. Homer's epic established many storytelling elements we still see today: the hero's long journey home, monsters and supernatural challenges, the clever/flawed protagonist, the quest narrative, themes of perseverance, loyalty, family, and identity. Ultimately, this movie is a modern adaptation of one of humanity's oldest surviving adventure stories.

CAST- It features an incredible cast. Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, joined by Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, and many more. The entire cast includes multiple Oscar winners, Emmy winners, Marvel stars, Batman actors, and several of Christopher Nolan's favorite collaborators.

Watching this groundbreaking adaptation of The Odyssey in a beautifully preserved 1920s movie palace adds another layer of history to the experience.

Opening at The Lafayette Friday, July 31st @ 7:30pm-
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Here is the confirmed cast, but who is Sadie Sink? Sadie Sink has confirmed she has a role but nothing more than her role is not Spider-man or Aunt May. What is your guess?

Perhaps she’ll portray Jean Grey, an X-Men staple in a project that would connect the series and the Marvel Cinematic Universe before the release of Avengers: Doomsday. OR she might play Gwen Stacy, one of Parker’s love interests, OR Firestar, a red-haired superhero who has joined forces with the Avengers and the X-Men in past comic book stories.

Spider-man: Brand New Day stars Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Zendaya as MJ, Odyssey costar Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk.

This Weekend at The Lafayette Theatre in Suffern, NY- The Odyssey

Critic vs. Fan Reaction to Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey movie - The interesting thing is that both critics and audiences like it a lot, but they're praising slightly different aspects. The film currently holds about 95% from critics and 97% from verified audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, which is unusual for a challenging 3 hour epic.

Critics praise its stunning visuals, epic scale, and performances. Highlights include Nolan's ambition in adapting Homer and the treatment of war, trauma, and homecoming themes. Many reviewers have called it one of Nolan's most ambitious films and praised its ability to make a 3,000-year-old story feel relevant today. The only recurring complaint is that the story can feel a bit complex and lengthy.

Audiences are calling it one of Nolan's best films. Audience reviews are overwhelmingly positive about: the cast, the score by Ludwig Göransson, the faithfulness to the epic scale of Homer's story, & the spectacle of the entire film. Many viewers describe it as a "must-see in theaters" movie. A subset of fans felt Nolan's trademark narrative style made the story more complicated than necessary, while others loved it and felt repeat viewings improved the experience.

Come see it at The Lafayette and decide for yourself!
