Midcoast Maine's own traveling DIY After Dark Cinema Club celebrates the 40th Anniversary of TRUE STORIES: A completely cool, multi-purpose movie!
Talking Heads' David Byrne trades in the big suit for a black Stetson to direct, co-write and star in this Byrne's-eye view of the town of Virgil, Texas as they celebrate the state's 150th.
Meet amiable, off-beat folk like Louis Fyne (John Goodman), the bachelor with the "WIFE WANTED" sign in his yard, the World's Laziest Woman Miss Rollings (Swoosie Kurtz), the happily married couple Earl (monologist Spalding Gray) & Kay Culver (Annie McEnroe, BEETLEJUICE) who NEVER speak directly to one another, and many more colorful participants in Virgil's celebration of *~Special-Ness~*, vividly shot by cinematographer Ed Lachman and featuring music performed by 🗣Talking Heads🗣, Tito Larriva and Pops Staples. Innovative, energetic, musical and funny — That's the truth of TRUE STORIES!
