A Mosquito in the Ear (2026) follows Andrew and Daniela, an American couple who travel to Goa, India, believing they’re finally about to become the family they’ve dreamed of. After years of fertility struggles, they’ve been matched with Sarvari, a four-year-old girl living in an orphanage—but when they arrive to bring her home, they discover that Sarvari doesn’t want to leave.
Jake Lacy and Nazanin Boniadi star as Andrew and Daniela, with Ruhi Pal as Sarvari. The couple quickly realizes that adoption isn’t simply about taking a child home. Sarvari has her own relationships, memories, fears, and a life she understands, while Andrew and Daniela struggle to communicate with a frightened little girl who doesn’t yet see them as her parents.
Directed by Nicola Rinciari and adapted from Andrea Ferraris’ fact-based graphic novel, the film explores parenthood, marriage, cultural differences, and the complicated process of becoming a family. A Mosquito in the Ear is a 2026 comedy-drama about adoption, family, and the complicated process of becoming parents. Written and directed by Nicola Rinciari in his feature directorial debut, the film is adapted from Andrea Ferraris’ fact-based Italian graphic novel Una Zanzara nell’Orecchio. It stars Jake Lacy, Nazanin Boniadi, and Ruhi Pal.

The story follows Andrew and Daniela, a couple who have very different feelings about parenthood. After fertility complications and years of uncertainty, they decide to pursue international adoption and are matched with Sarvari, a bright four-year-old girl living in an orphanage in Goa, India. They travel to India expecting to bring their new daughter home, but the reality is completely different from what they imagined.

Sarvari has grown deeply attached to the orphanage, the other children, and Sister Aruna, the woman who cares for her. She speaks only Hindi and does not want to leave the only home she has ever known. What Andrew and Daniela imagined as the joyful beginning of their family instead becomes an emotionally complicated encounter between two adults trying to become parents and a frightened child struggling to understand them.

As the situation becomes more difficult, Andrew and Daniela's relationship is also tested. Their different expectations about parenthood, communication difficulties, and the emotional reality of adoption force them to reconsider what it really means to become a family. The film explores the distance between wanting a child and earning a child's trust.

At its heart, A Mosquito in the Ear is a quiet story about family, belonging, parenthood, and the unexpected ways love can challenge the people who think they are ready for it.
