It's just shameful what some people will do to try and make a quick buck online. For example, agefotostock wants to charge you 150 bucks to use this image from the lost 1914 silent film "A Misplaced Foot" in which Mabel Normand (R) has just delivered a blackberry pie to the face of Minta Durfee (L) (Normand pretty much invented the pie-in-the-face gag). A close examination of the scan they have of this photo reveals to me that it is the *self. same. scan* of this photo *I uploaded* to some Yahoo group about 20 years ago.
Well I'm not standing for it! Here's a better quality scan of the pic, done tonight, out of the same book (borrowed from the Smyrna Public Library because I couldn't find my family's copy) which you can download and use however you wish, for free! And tomorrow, I'm going to go through this book and scan every single image from 1928 and before (the current threshold for public domain in the US) and upload them someplace where they can be accessed for free. And if the folks at agefotostock/World History Archive want to lose a bunch of money, garner a lot of bad publicity, and probably have the case laughed right out of court, they're welcome to try coming after me.
