In January 2010, a/perture cinema opened as a small two-screen art house cinema with the purpose of showcasing independent, foreign, documentary, local and festival films. a/perture quickly became a destination for non-commercial and artistic films that were not offered elsewhere in Winston-Salem and the surrounding communities. Located in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem, a/perture revived the

theatrical experience in the central business district. Over the past eleven years, a/perture has become a space to enjoy and celebrate art on film while fostering social capital and shared experiences. a/perture provides the community a home for more than 4,000 film screenings and events per year. a/perture’s mission is to engage and entertain the community through the art of film by showcasing informative, educational, thought-provoking and inspiring films – films that enrich lives, engage minds, promote diversity and build community.

Visiting a/perture isn't ✨exactly✨ like coming to a film festival, but we sure do have a lot of festival favorites coming to our screens this month 🎬 Check out these titles coming up in our series!

About the films ⬇️

Union County ➡️ Cody Parsons gets assigned to a county-mandated drug court program and starts the shaky work of staying clean in rural Ohio. It's a patient, deeply human look at recovery starring Will Poulter and Emily Meade.

Late Fame ➡️ Willem Dafoe plays a New York poet whose long-forgotten work gets rediscovered by a group of young writers who decide he's a genius. He gets swept back into the scene, and then an actress named Gloria complicates everything.

Primetime ➡️ It's 2006, and Robert Pattinson plays "To Catch a Predator" host Chris Hansen as he sets out to make television history. Lance Oppenheim directs, and yes, that's Phoebe Bridgers in the cast.

Ha-Chan, Shake Your B***y! ➡️ After tragedy pulls Haru away from Tokyo's ballroom dance scene, her friends coax her back into the studio. She falls hard for the new instructor, and she has to figure out what comes next.

Turns out our movie equipment and cats have something really important in common: they HATE getting wet 🐈‍⬛ CatVideo Fest has been postponed due to weather, and cat lovers and cats alike aren’t pleased with the decision. BUT, the show will go on!

Join us tomorrow at 6pm at Tanglewood Park for a drier and more pleasant CatVideo Fest experience! Festivities will begin at 6pm and the show will start at dark. As always, tickets benefit our friends at Forsyth Humane 🐾
