Cinema Nova

Cinema Nova Melbourne’s favourite independent cinema! Cinema Nova: where there is more on screen, more choice, more to enjoy.
(4700)

Cinema Nova was established in August 1992 as a collaboration between two landmark Australian independent cinemas – Natalie Miller's Longford Cinema in South Yarra and Barry Peak's Valhalla Cinema in Richmond and Westgarth, and opened as a twin theatre. Since that time we’ve grown to become one of the biggest independent cinemas in the southern hemisphere, with 16 theatres showing the best in qual

ity indie, Australian and arthouse film. An essential part of the Lygon Street scene, Cinema Nova is a part of Carlton’s cultural fabric and offers Melbourne more than any other cinema. Our Meet the Filmmaker and curated events programs allow our audience to experience film up close and personally, while also making going to the cinema an exciting event. From our famous house-made choc tops, voted the best in Melbourne by The Age, to our Nova Bar + Kitchen, and our indulgent Nova Deluxe and High Tea in-cinema dining sessions, you can combine your love of cinema with the best in food and beverages.

The artist, the muses. For the release of THE CHRISTOPHERS, sketched these portraits of Nova staffers, Fiona, Jonah, and Theo.

Now showing, THE CHRISTOPHERS sketches the thorny relationship between legendary artist Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen) and freelancer Lori (Michela Coel). The pair begin to work closely, after Julian’s children ask Lori to forge their father’s unfinished works. Stephen Soderbergh’s darkly comedic look at artistic integrity is full of lies and deceit.

Ari CATster’s MIDSOMMAR. Join us, Sunday June 21 for our annual Winter Solstice screening of Ari Aster’s MIDSOMMAR: Director’s Cut.

Dani (Florence Pugh) and Christian (Jack Reynor) travel to Sweden to visit a rural town's fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.
